At Hillandale Sports we try and play unless weather conditions pose danger to our families or fields are simply unplayable. Of course participants always have the choice of attending practices or games. If you choose not to attend a practice or game that is being held, despite weather conditions, we ask that you contact your coach to make them aware.

The organization has established standard procedures regarding Weather Cancellations for both Indoor and Outdoor Sport Programs.

Durham Public Schools (DPS) and Durham Parks and Recreation (DPR) usually allow our League Directors to make the decisions about field conditions and playability of fields. Assuming that is the case and we have not been told the field is closed we will follow the below guidelines:

WEEKDAYS
Weather Updates will be sent by 4:30pm via email to HSA families. If inclement weather hits directly before or during practices coaches can cancel practice at their discretion. 

WEEKENDS
Weather Updates will be sent by 7:30am via email to HSA families.

In the event that dangerous weather arrives (during practices or games) after the published times it is the responsibility of the coaches to determine if the fields are in safe and playable conditions, unless the League Director makes the decision for the programs.

NOTE
During league games some age groups have officials. If officials are present and determine the conditions unplayable then all games must be stopped immediately and cancelled. Coaches cannot override the decision of officials at any time.

In the event practices are NOT canceled by HSA board, coaches and parents must adhere to the 30 minute lightning rule. Any lightning heard or seen is indication that practice is over for 30 minutes at least. We place the safety of our families first. Keep this in mind during questionable weather.

Durham Public Schools (DPS) will make decisions about program cancellations. If DPS closes then all programs are immediately cancelled. In the event that this does happen the website will be updated and emails will be sent to our families.

If DPS has scheduled events during practice or games HSA will inform Coaches and/or Parents of secondary options.
