At Hillandale soccer, each child is given equal playing time and the opportunity to try all positions, so they can learn the sport as well as the positive benefits of exercise and being on a team. No official score is kept, and the emphasis is on fun and learning the game. Without pressure to "win", coaches and kids can focus on skill development and teamwork.
SMALL-SIDED TEAMS
We believe the small-sided games format is the best way to develop young children's aptitude for the game of soccer. This format allows kids a greater opportunity to touch the ball, dribble, pass, and score. Other advantages of playing small sided games:
• More time with the coach
• Energetic workouts due to playing both offense and defense
• Children are actively involved for a longer period of time
• It takes less time to score a goal or advance to goal
• Greater success rate for the players

Goalies are mandatory in age groups U6 and older. |

*Poaching is when a player clearly makes no attempt to remain in an onside position and seeks to gain an advantage. Some coaches take advantage of the "no offsides" rule by instructing players to camp in front of the opponents goal. This will not be tolerated at HSA. |
